Images

EMER provides access to galleries of fascinating pictures from across the Middle East. Some of these images were snapped by our contributors to go alongside stories, others are just great photographs in their own right.

We hope you take the time to look at these pictures: we're sure you'll find them interesting. Check out a selection below.

Egypt · 06 April 2008 protests

On 06 April 2008, Egypt experienced the first major demonstration in its recent history as part of a call for constitutional reform. That day, which also saw a severe sandstorm sweep through the Egyptian capital, George Richards photographed the situation in Downtown Cairo.

Exactly two years later, on 06 April 2010, police and security forces broke up a demonstration in Downtown Cairo. Nathaniel Daudrich, in his inaugural human rights piece, investigates the background of the movement behind the protests and what the Mubarak administration can expect in the run-up to 2011 presidential elections.

Egypt · Electoral reform rally

On 14 August 2005, Camilla Hall photographed an electoral reform rally outside the Syndicate of Journalists in Cairo, Egypt. Several of the images were used in her article in the inaugural issue of EMER in Autumn 2006.

Now, for the first time, the full collection is available online here at EMERglobal.
